Check the list of dignitaries
Ponch will be here, MAN! There are other celebrities on the list, but that's the main attraction isn't it? "Downtown" will be crawling with a few tourists and thousands of inebriated local villains. The usual suspects are already planning each and every glorious moment of debauchery. The young soon to be Mrs. and myself will mostly miss the festivities, but we might just sneak down to the old mall and quaff a few pints with the crew at some point. We might bring our little grill to the tailgate party in front of the Jimmy Buffett Tribute tent. I'll be punching buttons on my take-home final exam, but I have to get something like 75 measly points for a B... Anyway. We'll be making our rounds and we'll see you on the by and by.
surf the net. watch tv. go for a walk or a bike ride in the perfect weather. anything. blog as if it's really a verb. as if. cook dinner, or eat out. Oh wait, already have plans for some sort of pizza calzone party time tonight. Already had too much coffee and didn't do enough on the paper. The paper. Found 6 more sources but that doesn't feel like good news to me. The ones I want are not in any library or bookstore near here. Might have to go to Sterling tomorrow to get one of them. Special ordered it at the local Borders but it's not in yet. All I can say is Argh Argh Argh.... Oof.
I just ate two pollyo string cheeses and drank a double shot

Yesterday I went to listen to a lecture from visiting Israeli professor Dr. Avi Beker at Georgetown University on anti-Semitism in the Middle East. Most of what he said did not surprise me, having heard and seen most of it in alarmist documentaries about radical Islam... Just replace "America" with "Jews" or "Zionists" and you have a match. Hate is hate, man. The one thing I carried away from it was a quote from Madeleine Albright about the futility of trying to approach politics and diplomacy without addressing religion. That made me want to read her book -
The Mighty and the Almighty. Maybe this summer. I'm only reading 5 books right now for my class, and I should be reading 5 more for my research paper. I don't want to wake up... Just five more minutes, Mom. On the way home from Georgetown I stopped by
Eleventh Street Lounge in Arlington to grab a brewski with a forlorn comrade. They have Chimay and Delerium on tap, and a tasty Gorgonzola burger. There were comedians performing for free in the basement, but maybe next time. I had to get some shut-eye. Today I'm going to American University to hear Dr. Mohsen Sazegara speaking about the 1979 Iranian Revolution, which is oh so timely because I'm just now reading about this in Keddie's
Modern Iran, Roots and Results of Revolution. Tonight I might try to check out
Sticky Rice DC, but more likely someplace that's on the way home. I have to check in with my DC sherpa for some intel on good grub and swill. He said there's a dive in Old Town I just gotta pop into. Big ups to Ro* for completing the second surgery and straightening up. Can't wait to see her. Peas...
